The Southeast Tourism Society
On September 14, 1983 a group of industry leaders, content that the southeast region of the United States possesses some of the best natural resources, history, tourist attractions, and all around vacation spots in the country, joined together to create the Southeast Tourism Society.
The STS feels that by joining the strengths and resources of the region, visitors to the area are far better served. STS members are made up of state travel offices, attractions, hotels, motels, resorts, convention and visitor bureaus, airlines, bus companies, car rental agencies, newspapers, magazines and other travel related organizations.
Millions of people visit the southeast annually, due to its broad and diverse appeal. Thousands of events take place every year. Festivals grew out of the southern camp meetings, church socials and political barbeques. Southerners will find any reason to enjoy life.
Early in its existence, the STS developed a means to showcase the many events held in the southeast each year. For every month of the year their list of the Top 20 Events is published quarterly in over 300 newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations, as well as 125 AAA publications. The total circulation goes well into the millions, and helps attract an astounding number of visitors.
